Bach Dang Street promenade – a cultural space for local residents
The Bach Dang Street riverside promenade, along the west bank of the Han River, has become an attractive entertainment venue for both local residents and visitors.
In the early morning, many local residents do physical exercise or take strolls along the street’s pedestrian promenade. Then, when evening falls, it is common to see many middle-aged people dancing, and local teenagers indulging in hip-hop dance moves, which creates a vibrant atmosphere. Many children are taken by their parents to the promenade to play with their peers, whilst some locals enjoy walking their pets along the riverside.

According to local cultural researcher Nguyen Dinh An, the city’s Han River has become a local landmark partly due to the many beautiful bridges spanning it, including the Rong (Dragon) and the Tran Thi Ly bridges. There are also sightseeing boat tours available on the river, and during local festivals fascinating activities include firework displays, floating lanterns and brilliantly decorated boats. Additionally, the western bank of the river features a number of sculptures, trees and lawns, which all create a pleasant green space. There are periodic street music programmes which draw a great deal of attention from the public. Grateful for these advantages, the street promenade has satisfied the demand for relaxation and recreation amongst locals and visitors.
Many visitors from Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City remark that Da Nang’s green, clean and beautiful environment, along with the peaceful daily lives of the local residents, has helped to bring a charming face to this seaside city. When visiting this beautiful place, they usually take part in sightseeing tours and go to local beaches for swimming during the daytime, as well as enjoy delicious locally-caught seafood in the evening. They also say that walking along the banks of the river in the evening is a pleasant way to contemplate the city’s amazing scenery.
The municipal Department of Tourism, Sports and Culture has attached great importance to developing the Bach Dang Street promenade into a special cultural space. A future focus will be on placing more high-quality stone sculptures on the eastern bank of the river, as well as organising more musical performances in order to meet the increasing demand for entertainment from both locals and visitors.
