On Tuesday, 5 Vietnamese weightlifters flew to Kazakhstan’s capital Almaty to participate in the 2014 World Weightlifting Championships, which will take place from 8 - 16 November.  Da Nang’s Tran Le Quoc Toan will enter the men’s 56kg category.  The other 4 contestants, namely Tran Van Hoa, Hoang Tuan Tai, Nguyen Hong Ngoc and Thach Kim Tuan, are all from Ho Chi Minh City and they will compete in the men’s categories of 94kg, 85kg, 77kg and 56kg respectively.

The World Weightlifting Championships is the second most important weightlifting event after the 17^th Asian Games (Asiad) which was held in Incheon, South Korea a few weeks ago.  The event will present a good opportunity for the national weightlifters to earn tickets to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
