Musical performance marks musician Phan Huynh Dieu's 90th birthday

A special musical performance, entitled “Con Mai Tinh Yeu” (Forever Love), took place at Da Nang’s Trung Vuong Theatre on Tuesday evening to celebrate the 90th birthday of renowned musician Phan Huynh Dieu (11 November).  The event was jointly organised by the city’s Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the local Musicians’ Association, and the Da Nang Radio and Television (DRT).

The audience was treated to impressive performances by local singers.  The songs performed at the event have all contributed significantly to building up the musician’s reputation.  They included “Giai Phong Quan” (The Liberators), “Da Nang Oi – Chung Con Da Ve” (Dear Da Nang – We Are Back), “Hanh Khuc Ngay Va Dem” (A Marching Song of Day and Night), “Nhung Anh Sao Dem” (Starlit Night), “Bong Cay Ko-nia” (The Shade of a Konia Tree), “Cuoc Doi Van Dep Sao” (Life is Still Beautiful), “Dat Quang Nam” (The Land of Quang Nam Province), “Hat Ve Thanh Pho Que Huong” (Singing about the Native City), and “Ve Voi Song Han” (Back to the Han River).

Born on 11 November 1924, musician Phan Huynh Dieu is one of the most outstanding musicians of Viet Nam’s contemporary music scene, and he has contributed significantly to the development of Vietnamese music in the 20th century.  The 90-year-old musician is dubbed as the golden bird of Vietnamese music thanks to his talent for composing fascinating evolutionary and romantic songs.  In 2000, he was awarded with the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Art for his great contribution to the country’s music.
