'Carp Turns into a Dragon' statue being installed at new marina
The statue 'Carp Turns into a Dragon' is now being installed at the new Da Nang Marina complex on the eastern side of the Han River, and the work is expected to be completed by 30 April.
The statue, which overlooks the river, has been created by craftsmen from the city’s Non Nuoc stone carving village. Weighing nearly 200 tonnes and standing 7.5m high, it has been made from 5 blocks of natural white marble placed on a 4.3m-high base joined by split stones.

The carp’s body is ingeniously engraved with powerful layers of fish scales. In particular, its tail features the image of two hands placed symmetrically, which symbolises peace, prosperity and solidarity. The carp’s dragon-shaped head can squirt water in accordance with a legend in which the carp turns into a dragon to save all sentient beings.
