Outlines of teams' performances at DIFC 2015 unveiled

DA NANG Today
Published: April 23, 2015

Teams from South Africa, Poland, Australia, and the USA, plus the host team Da Nang-Viet Nam, will compete in the Da Nang International Fireworks Competition (DIFC 2015) on 28 and 29 April.  Each will be required to present a magnificent fireworks performance of between 20 and 22 minutes.  Here are the fireworks show scripts that the teams recently unveiled.

This is the first time that Fireworks for Africa from South Africa has participated in this competition, and the team is now South Africa’s leading fireworks company.

With their theme of ‘African Blue Sky', the team’s performance will depict a journey of sorts, which takes the spectators on a brief tour through the last few decades of the colour and history of South Africa.  After all, this country is known as the Rainbow Nation, a land full of rich colours.  The show will feature all the colours found in the rainbow, and more.  All the songs are composed by South Africa artists and they are in one way or another all about colour.  The team hope that the spectators will be deeply impressed by their incredible performance.

This will be the 2nd time that Pyrotechnico (USA) has competed in the competition, having previously come second at DIFC 2010.  Their 22-minute show, themed ‘Whole Lotta Love’, will give new meaning to love songs spanning different musical genres, all perfectly choreographed to innovative imagery, fireworks, and special lighting effects.

The host team Da Nang-Viet Nam has participated in the event on all the previous 6 occasions and, most notably, it won 'Best of' Award at GlobalFest 2014 in Vancouver, Canada.  Themed ‘Symphony of Colours’, the team’s performance at DIFC 2015 will be divided into 4 parts.

The 1st part will feature a message of the Vietnamese people’s deep pride in their sacred origins and national heroes who have laid down their lives for the protection of the nation.

The 2nd part will show the Vietnamese people’s love for their country, especially its sea and islands, as well as their strong conviction that the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos are integral parts of Viet Nam’s territory.

The 3rd part will highlight the impressive image of Da Nang as a young and dynamic city, and its strong aspirations for peace and global integration.

In the final part, the host team will produce their firework crescendo to enchanting melodies in order to introduce the significance of the competition’s meaningful theme to international friends.

Having previously come third at DIFC 2009, team Howard & Son Fireworks from Australia will compete in this year’s competition with a spectacular performance which has the same theme as the host team: ‘Symphony of Colours’.

Like the original ‘Symphony of Colours’ orchestral work which was composed by Arthur Bliss in 1921, the 21-minute display will be divided into 4 parts to correspond with the 4 movements of the piece.

The 1st movement - Andente Maestoso: ‘Purple, the colour of Amethysts, Pageantry, Royalty and Death’.  Just like a traditional Vietnamese pageant, this segment will be slow in pace and ceremonial in character.

The 2nd movement - Allegro Vivace: ‘Red: the colour of Rubies, Wine, Revelry, Furnaces, Courage and Magic’.  With the pomp and ceremony gone, the heat of the party begins.  With glittery, aggressive and staccato movements of celebration, this segment reflects the essence of Da Nang.

The 3rd movement - Scorre Dolcemente: ‘Blue: the colour of Sapphires, Deep Water, Skies, Loyalty and Melancholy’.  After the fervour of the celebration, the pace becomes gentle like the lapping of water along the edge of the Han River.

The final movement - Moderato: 'Green: the colour of Emeralds, Hope, Youth, Joy, Spring and Victory'.  Once again the pace builds creating layer upon layer of increasing strength leading to a triumphant climax.

Spectators will be amazed as their pyrotechnical mystros paint the night sky with their vivid pyrotechnic paints, bringing to life ‘The Colourful Serpent Symphony’.

The performance by team Surex Firma Rodzinna from Poland will take 'Our Passion, Your Emotions' as its theme.  These words are not just a poetic expression of collaboration between fireworks and emotions - the team’s main task in this show will be to create these feelings.  They are sure that different colours and effects playing to the sounds will help them achieve their purpose.

Top artist James Dooley will help them to provide a combination of fireworks and music which will play with the deepest human emotions.  The special aim of the performance is to do that through the fireworks, and there will come a moment when the audience stops wondering and starts to feel emotional.

The performance will feature the perfect synchronisation of music and fireworks in a unique design, the collaboration of ground elements with sky elements, and special compositions of colours.
