Archaeologists from the Da Nang Centre of Cultural Heritage Management and the Viet Nam Archaeology Institute recently carried out the excavation of a 10m2 area at the Xuan Duong relic site in Nam O Village, Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District.

A foundation and a number of bricks were discovered at a depth of about 1m below ground.  It is believed that there was a Cham tower at this site.

The archaeologists stressed the need to conduct another excavation on a 500m2 area of the relic site as soon as possible in order to learn more about the structure of the foundation and the architectural design of the tower.

The Xuan Duong tower is believed to have become a ruin due to the ravages of war and the passage of time.  The tower has been mentioned in numerous historical documents over the historical periods. Artifacts found during excavations at this site over recent years have been preserved in the city’s Museum of Cham Sculpture.
