Team Viet Nam grabbed its first medal in the 28^th SEA Games tournament, taking bronze from table tennis in the men’s doubles event on June 2.

Vietnamese duo Tuan Quynh and Anh Tu lost 0-4 to Singapore’s Gao Ning and Li Hu in the semi-final match, losing the ticket to the finals but winning the first medal for Viet Nam at the games.

The table tennis team set a target for one gold and three bronze this year to match their winnings in the 2013 SEA Games.

Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Nga outlasted Douanggpanya Seangdavieng of Laos and her teammate Mai Hoang My Trang beat Filipino Balatbat Sendrina in the women’s singles events of the Table A and Table B, respectively.

On the day prior, Vietnamese pair Quang Linh and Van Nam fell 2-3 to Thai duo Tanviriyavechakul and Udomsilp in the other men’s doubles match after coasting to a 3-0 win over Kongphet and Phathaphone of Laos.

In the women’s doubles event, Viet Nam’s duo My Trang and Tuong Giang were defeated 0-3 by a Thai pair.
