The result was a surprise for both fans and experts because Thailand were appreciated better than the hosts in this tournament.
Viet Nam’s coach Nguyen Tien Minh said after the match that “Luck is a major factor in football competitions. Today, Viet Nam found good luck. I do not mean that we didn’t deserve this victory. On the contrary, my players made all the efforts.”
“Vietnamese players played very intelligently and managed to suppress Thai power. That is the reason why Viet Nam could beat Thailand,” he added.
In the bronze-medal match played earlier, Myanmar defeated Malaysia 6-2.
The tournament, which kicked off on June 20, saw the participation of nine teams, including Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore and the Philippines.
