5th Asian Beach Games to be held in city in 2016.
A discussion about the preparations for the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG 5), which is scheduled to take place in Da Nang from 24 September to 3 October 2016, took place in the city on Monday.
Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung stressed the need to ensure that the event would leave a good impression of a civilised and friendly city on both participating contestants and invited guests.
Da Nang has been chosen by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to host ABG 5 thanks to its modern venues and facilities which are suitable for international sporting events.

ABG 5 is expected to welcome nearly 4,600 athletes from 45 countries and territories in Asia, along with a total of 370 international guests who are heads of state and representatives from the OCA, the national Olympic committees in the participating countries, and international sports organisations.
The contestants will compete in 14 beach sports in a total of 22 different categories.
These events will take place on the 8km-long Tho Quang Beach stretching from Son Tra District’s Tho Quang Ward to Ngu Hanh Son’s Hoa Hai Ward, with the opening and closing ceremonies taking place at the city’s Tien Son Sports Arena.
The municipal organising board and 9 specialised sub-committees have already been established to ensure best preparations for next year’s event. Seven of the sub-committees will work closely with those from the central organising board, whilst the remainder will be responsible for organising the opening and closing ceremonies, and reception activities.
A digital clock to count down to ABG 5 will be installed at the roundabout of Ngo Quyen and Pham Van Dong streets on 24 September this year to mark one year before the event begins.
