Festival of Tuong plays by late playwright Tong Phuoc Pho opens
A festival featuring a total of 23 Tuong (classical drama) plays, with scripts either written or edited by the late playwright Tong Phuoc Pho, was officially opened at Da Nang’s Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong Theatre on Thursday evening. Artistes from the theatre performed the play ‘Trung Vuong’ at the event’s opening ceremony.
Jointly organised by the municipal People’s Committee and the Viet Nam Stage Artistes’ Association, artistes from 6 professional and 14 amateur troupes from across the country are participating.

During the festival, Tuong performances by the participating artistes start at 9.00am and 8.00pm each day. The plays include ‘An Tu Cong Chua’ (An Tu Princess), ‘Sao Khue Troi Viet’ (Venus Star of Viet Nam), ‘Ngon Lua Hong Son’ (Hoang Son Flame) and ‘Ngo Vuong Quyen’ (Ngo Quyen King).
Free admission to the theatre during the festival, which runs until 4 October, is being offered to both local residents and visitors.
