29-year-old sailor Nguyen Tran Minh An from Da Nang’s Cam Le District was recently sent to Australia to attend a 1-month training course on yacht race skills.  The course aims to help participants enhance their communication and team working skills, and improve their professional knowledge on yacht racing.

The young local sailor is expected to return to his hometown on 28 October, after which he will go back to Australia to join the Da Nang-Viet Nam team at the race route between Sydney, Hobart and Airlie Beach (Australia) and Da Nang (Viet Nam).

An used to work as an English speaking tour guide for the city’s Green Tour Company, and he is now working for the Da Nang Port Company as a sailor.

Earlier, Crew Recruitment and Development Director at Clipper Ventures, Mr David Cusworth, had interviewed An and found that the young man has a good background knowledge and pretty good ability to communicate in English.

The total costs for sending a local sailor to participate in the race is quite expensive, including £5,000 for the training course and uniform for each participating member and £5,300 for the race costs.
