Talented local swimmer hopes to shine after his injury treatment
In mid-September, talented local swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc returned to Da Nang after undergoing physiotherapy for his chronic lower back pain at the Viet Nam Sports Hospital. He immediately began 3 weeks of training in preparation for the swimming competition of the 2015 National Swimming and Diving Championships which took place in the city from 15 -19 October.
During the 5 days of competition, Phuoc won 5 gold medals in the men’s 100m freestyle, and 50m and 100m butterfly. Most notably, his time in the 100m freestyle beat his previous personal best recorded at the 28th SEA Games.

His coach Phan Thanh Toai said that Phuoc's main aim by competing in this event was to check his physical strength and recovery from injuries rather than to improve his performance. This would help the coaching board to identify his weaknesses and find more effective training solutions to help him get back to his previous best.
Phuoc will now take part in other training exercises which will help him recover his fitness. The city's Sports and Physical Training Sector and the local Athlete Training Centre will then ask the city authorities to send Phuoc to Hungary for training with the intention of helping him get back to being one of the country’s best swimmers.
