The Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Nguyen Phuc Linh, said that Da Nang was accelerating the infrastructure preparations for the international event.  The sites are being levelled off, and the installation of more wi-fi transmission stations, lighting and water supply systems, and viewing stands is proceeding.  He added that the local Police Department had developed detailed plans to ensure the security and safety of contestants during the event.

Deputy Director Linh said that there will be 4 competition venues.  The main venue is the beach near the East Sea Park where the opening and closing ceremonies, along with the majority of the sports events, will take place.  The other venues are beaches near the T-20 Beach in Ngu Hanh Son District and the Dana Beach Resort.  The maximum distance between the first and fourth venues is only 7km.

Thanks to the city’s wide coastline, the organising board will find it easy to arrange support offices for the contestants.

Running between 23 September and 4 October 2016, ABG 5 is expected to attract around 3,000 athletes from 45 countries and territories in Asia who will compete in 14 beach sports in a total of 22 different categories.
