The Hai Chau District authorities will place bookshelves in 11 local coffee shops and appeal for public donations of books for these venues.  The aim is to promote a healthy reading habit amongst local residents, which in turn will help to further the city’s reading culture.

The district currently has 6 privately-owned book coffee shops, along with some public reading areas at community houses in Thach Thang, Hoa Thuan Tay, and Tan Thanh wards, and at an entertainment area in Hoa Cuong Bac Ward.

The 2nd Hai Chau Book Festival, which was held from 20 - 24 April, is one of the district’s most interesting cultural events in 2016.  The 5-day festival attracted 60,000 local residents and visitors who enjoyed reading and buying books.  A total of 100,000 books of many different categories were sold at the event, which helped the participating businesses to earn a total of over 3.5 billion VND.
