The event, which kicked off on Sunday at the Bien Dong (East Sea) Park, has seen the participation of 15 local restaurants and culinary business units.

The seafood festival is set to close on 5 May, allowing visitors to buy fresh products and try a number of dishes with ingredients carefully checked by authorities.

According to the Da Nang People’s Committee, the event is among the activities to promote local seafood as well as support fishermen to sell fresh, safe products.

Tran Chi Cuong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, added that the event also aims at diversifying activities to serve tourists during the four-day holiday, which last from April 30 to May 3.

Asides from several provinces in central Viet Nam, including Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri, Da Nang has witnessed mysterious mass fish deaths since last week.

The city’s authorities have responded by taking samples of sea water along its beaches for toxic tests.

The test results were released on the afternoon of April 28, with all quality parameters of the sea water “within allowed limits,” the municipal department of environment said.
