Ground puppetry attractive to children
In mid-May, Da Nang’s Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong Theatre held a rehearsal for its ‘Exciting Summer Days’ ground puppet programme which will be presented during summer school holidays. The rehearsal attracted a large audience of children.
The shows will feature some interesting popular stories such as a family of chickens, monkey tricks, and a romantic dance of white swans.
In order to prepare well for the shows, the theatre’s artists were trained hard within a month by People’s Artist Thuy Trang from the Thang Long Puppetry Theatre.

The theatre’s director, Mr Tran Ngoc Tuan, remarked “Currently, there is a lack of entertainment art activities for children in Da Nang. Therefore, ground puppetry will help to diversify the city’s entertainment for children, and to raise incomes for the theatre’s artists.”
Mr Tuan said that in addition to the ‘Exciting Summer Days’ programme, the theatre will organise 2 more puppetry performances entitled ‘Natural Forest’ and ‘Fairy Dances’. The shows will feature more animal characters associated with children's childhood such as bees, frogs and locusts. In addition, there will be small games for audiences of children to incarnate into their favourite animals on the stage.
