On Tuesday, representatives from the Da Nang Centre of Cultural Heritage Management handed over a number of valuable artifacts to the Museum of Da Nang.

In total there were 722 stone items, 4,584 fragments of pottery and 11 old coins.  The artifacts were all found during excavation of a 100m2 area in June 2015 at the Khue Bac village communal house in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Hai Ward.  The excavation was jointly carried out by archaeologists from the Centre and the Viet Nam Archaeology Institute.

The artifacts were uncovered in 2 layers at the excavation site.  The upper layer featured items dating back to between the 2nd and 20th centuries AD, whilst those found in the lower layer may be from the Sa Huynh culture which thrived in the central and southern regions of Viet Nam between 1000 BC and 200 AD.

The findings from the site will be added to the collections of artifacts from the pre- and post-Sa Huynh culture which are now on display at the museum.

The Centre also provided the museum with a number of photos of the discovered artifacts and related scientific reports made by archaeologists from the Viet Nam Archaeology Institute.  These valuable documents will help visitors to the museum to understand more about the daily lives of people during the Sa Huynh civilisation in Ngu Hanh Son District, and in the city as a whole.
