Indian Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish and Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho along with over 500 yoga teachers and trainees across the city took part in the 2nd International Yoga Day celebrations at the East Sea Park on June 19.

The programme was jointly held by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations, the city’s branch of the Viet Nam-India Friendship Association, and the Indian Embassy in Viet Nam.

The intention was to improve participants physically and mentally and strengthen bilateral friendship and cooperation with India.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and consciousness.

Recognising its universal appeal, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as International Yoga Day.

International Yoga Day aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
