Paragliders to race from Son Tra Mountain

Around 50 fliers from clubs nationwide will compete in a paragliding race on the Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang on 17-22 June.

The head of the Da Nang Paragliding club, Duong Hien Hoang said the race, Flying over the Tien Sa Festival, aims to boost tourism and create a recreational event for tourists during summer.

He said members from VietWing, Aviation Clubs of Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang, the Northern and Southern Aviation clubs, and 10 amateur paragliders and foreigners will join the five-day event.

As scheduled, men’s and women’s pilots will race from the top of the Son Tra Mountain (693m above sea level) to land on the Man Thai beach over seven rounds for the championship title on two days from 18-19 June.

The event’s organising board also host fun fly for tourists after the race.

In 2012, Da Nang hosted the International Paramotor Race, which drew thousands of spectators.
