This year’s programme, entitled ‘Overseas Vietnamese Youth with National Cultural Heritage’, was held between 10 and 23 July.  It featured many meaningful activities in northern and central localities, including Da Nang.

In Da Nang, the young expatriates visited the Linh Ung Pagoda, presented books to children at the city’s Care Centre for Street Children, planted casuarina trees along local beaches, and took part in cultural exchange activities with local young people.

During their stay in the other localities, the participants visited many historical and cultural sites, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long and the Quoc Tu Giam Temple of Literature, all in Ha Noi, along with Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province, the Hue imperial citadel in Thua Thien-Hue Province, and the My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam Province.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vu Hong Nam remarked that the annual summer camp created an opportunity for young expatriates to enhance their knowledge about the history and cultural values of their country of origin, as well as express their deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation’s unification.

Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh highly applauded the visit made by the third and fourth generations of overseas Vietnamese from across the world.  He also said he hoped that the fruitful relationships between young Vietnamese expatriates and young people in Da Nang, and the country as a whole, would be further strengthened.

Also at the closing ceremony, the Foreign Ministry’s State Commission on Overseas Vietnamese donated 10 million VND to the city’s Association for Victims of Agent Orange.
