Following recent approval from the Da Nang authorities, a design contest for a new tunnel under the Han River will be launched in the city soon. The contest is open to any domestic and foreign individuals and organisations.
The Han River |
The new tunnel will run under the river between the Han River and Thuan Phuoc bridges. It will link the roundabout junction of Bach Dang, 3 February and Nhu Nguyet streets in Hai Chau District with the intersection of Tran Hung Dao, Van Don and Tran Thanh Tong streets on the eastern bank.
During the construction work, the smooth movement of all kinds of boats, including sailboats, must be ensured. Also, the tunnel’s design has to strictly comply with the city’s master urban plan towards 2030 with a vision to 2050, and should be unique, aesthetically pleasing, and highly-feasible.
The design must minimise any visual impact from the beaches and the Son Tra Peninsula, and ensure the convenient organisation of cultural festivals alongside the Han River to promote the local tourism sector.
As for the technical aspect, the work is required to strictly comply with Viet Nam’s technical standards about construction, the environment, fire-fighting, and labour safety. One focus is to save on the time and cost of construction and the compensation for site clearance and relocation work.
The first prize winner will receive 100 million VND, whilst a second prize of 70 million VND and a third prize of 50 million VND will also be awarded.
