Last year, many international architectural planning consultancy companies proposed ideas for landscape improvements along both banks of Da Nang’s Han River.  However, most of the ideas didn’t touch the hearts of local residents or meet the city’s requirements for its urban development in the future.

As a result, earlier this month, the city authorities announced the organisation of an international contest to design the landscaping alongside the river.

Municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho said the city authorities wanted to look for new, creative, and unique ideas in order to make the Han River become the city’s key architectural feature during its civilised and modern urban progress.

According to a spokesperson for the city’s Planning and Construction Institute, the contest’s organisers are encouraging entrants to maximise the creativity of their entries to find the best planning solutions for the river.  This will help to create a new vitality to the river and improve the city’s reputation.  A focus should be on ensuring a harmonious combination between the project’s architectural innovations and the preservation of the natural values of the river, especially the water surface.
