Da Nang gears up for ABG5
So far, a total of over 600 international and domestic reporters have registered to cover the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5) which will take place in Da Nang from 24 September to 3 October. In addition, participating teams will arrive in the city from 18 September.

Speaking at a recent press conference, municipal Department of Culture and Sports Vice Director Nguyen Phuc Linh said that the city was making every effort for a successful beach games.
“We have received the registration of 3,100 athletes, along with 1,500 coaches and officials from 42 teams across Asian countries and territories. Over 1,400 international and domestic referees, supervisors and technical experts will officiate the 10-day games that Viet Nam will host it for the first time,” Vice Director Linh said. In addition, there will be 1,500 Vietnamese volunteers to serve the international event.
Mr Linh also remarked that preparations for the games had been difficult as a recent storm hit central Viet Nam on 12 September, but the locality would hand over the competition venues, accommodation areas, vehicles and facilities in timely fashion.
Telecommunications system has been installed at 4 major competition venues: the East Sea Park, the My Khe beach, the Son Thuy beach and the Phuong Trang beach in Ngu Hanh Son and Son Tra districts.
The city will also host a series of cultural activities for athletes and visitors during the games, including street fashion of participating countries at ABG5 and a beach festival at the My Khe beach.
ABG5 will be considered as a great opportunity for the city to promote its images to international friends.
The biennial event has ‘Shining Sea, Bright Future’ as its theme with 172 medal sets for 14 sports.
The East Sea Park will host the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the main competition sports.
