The closing ceremony began with arts performances entitled ‘The Blue Sea’s Aspiration’, ‘The Vietnamese Birds’ and ‘Conquering the Ocean’. These performances showcased the aspirations of Vietnamese people in conquering the ocean and sports, as well as introduced the special characteristics of Vietnamese culture to international friends.
The performances were followed by the screening of a reportage film which reflected impressive moments from the ABG5 competitions, the beauty of the city, and the friendliness and hospitability of its residents.

Addressing the event, Minister Thien remarked “Over the last 10 days, dozens of millions of people across Asia have followed the exciting and thrilling competitions at ABG5. The participating athletes and coaches came to the ABG5 competition venues with the aim of not only bringing victory to their countries, but also sharing the beauty of their own cultures with friends worldwide. To date, the owners of sets of medals at the international games have been found. However, all of the participating athletes are truly the winners with the triumph of passion, a strong dedication to their sports, and strong solidarity and friendship.”
He added, “ABG5 was a success, and it has left a deep impression in the history of Asian sports. This has been attributed to the great concern and efforts of the Party, State and national relevant agencies of Viet Nam, as well as the active assistance from OCA. Specifically mentioned are the great efforts by the municipal leaders and local residents in their good preparations for ABG5 despite the unfavourable weather conditions.”
In his speech, OCA’s Vice President Timothy Fok congratulated Da Nang and Viet Nam for successfully hosting ABG5. This has helped to write a new chapter in the history of the OCA with a truly magnificent international sports event.
The event ended with the flag-lowering ceremony and the handover of the ABG flag to Mr Fok from Chairman Tho and Minister Thien. Finally, the audience at the East Sea Park’s main stage together watched the flame die out.
