The Viet Nam National Swimming Championships 2016 officially started at the My Dinh National Sports Complex in Ha Noi on 18 October.

The competition sees the participation of 110 contestants from such localities as Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, and Da Nang, along with those from the Viet Nam People’s Army, and a foreign team from Hungary.

Ha Noi delegation forms the biggest group with 17 athletes, followed by Ho Chi Minh City and the Viet Nam People’s Army teams with 12 competitors. In addition, there are 9 Hungarian contenders competing in the event.

The Championships 2016 is an opportunity for the organising board to re-evaluate the quality of contestants and their coaches’ training methods.

It helps select talented swimmers for the national team to compete at big regional, continental and global competitions.

The event is scheduled to last until 22 October.
