On Tuesday, a seminar entitled ‘Buddhist Heritage at the Marble Mountain Tourist Area’ took place at the Quan The Am (Avalokitesvara) Pagoda in Da Nang’s Ngu Hanh Son District.

The event was jointly organised by the Pagoda, relevant local agencies, and the Lieu Quan Buddhist Cultural Centre in Thua Thien-Hue Province.

The seminar gave the participants access to research about Buddhist ancient artifacts which date back hundreds of years.  This would then help them develop effective solutions to preserve and promote Buddhist heritage values in the near future.

At the event, the participating researchers remarked that numerous valuable Buddhist artifacts are being kept in the Marble Mountain Tourist Area.  Included are the ‘Ngu Uan Son’ and ‘Pho Da Son’ stone steles, bibliographies, and parallel sentences at such pagodas as the Tam Thai and Tam Ton.

It was affirmed that the Marble Mountain Tourist Area is one of the central region’s largest Buddhist centres.  It was formed quite early, and played a crucial role in the development of Buddhism during the Nguyen Dynasty, especially in the 17th century.  Various Buddhist activities took place at this venue during that period and saw the active involvement of many businesspeople from such foreign countries as Japan and China.
