Viet Nam tops regional champs for young athletes
Viet Nam ranked first at the 12th Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships which closed on 28 March in the Philippines.

Vietnamese athletes won 13 gold and 7 silver medals at the 2-day tournament in Ilagan city, Malaysia came in 2nd with 5 golds, 5 silvers and 6 bronzes, whilst Indonesia came 3rd with 5 golds and 2 silvers.
On 28 March, Viet Nam earned 8 titles.
Bui Thi Trang won the girls’ 400m hurdles event with a time of 63.35sec. Her teammate Le Thi Hong Han came 2nd, followed by Bernalyn Bejoy of the hosts.
Han then had her chance to taste victory in the 400m class.
Nguyen Trung Cuong triumphed in the boys’ 1,500m event while his teammate Doan Thu Hang topped the female category.
Cuong earlier won a title in the 2,000m steeplechase. Ngo Thi Khanh Ly won the girls’ 2,000m steeplechase.
In the morning session, Nguyen Lan Anh jumped 1.71m to take the top spot at the girls’ high-jump pool.
The tournament attracted about 300 participants from eight countries in the region. Viet Nam sent 17 competitors to the event.
