Cycle race to conquer Hai Van Pass attracts about 400 cyclists
The 2nd Cycle Race to conquer the Hai Van Pass, which is 496m above sea level and is at the geographical boundary between Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue Province, took place last Saturday.

The event was organised in response to the city’s campaign ‘Cycling for Health and the Environment’ and it was part of the city’s action programme to reduce smoke pollution and the number of motorbikes on local streets.
A total of around 400 cyclists from 59 cycling clubs nationwide took part.
The event began with an opening ceremony at the Truong Vuong Theatre. This was followed by a parade along some of the city’s major streets by the participating cyclists.
After the parade, the male contestants began a 27km race from the city’s Thuan Phuoc Bridge to the Hai Van Gate at the top of the pass. Meanwhile, the female contestants had a 15km race from Nam O Bridge in Lien Chieu District to the peak of the Hai Van Pass.

Ngo Van Sinh from the Thanh Hoa Cycling Club came 1st in the men’s race, whilst Nguyen Trung Kien from Ha Noi’s T2 Cycling Club and Le The Duong from Quy Nhon City’s Chin Pho Cycling Club finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
