6th DA NANG Newspaper Football Tournament for pupils begins
The 6th DA NANG Newspaper Football Tournament for primary and junior high school pupils opened at the city’s Tien Son Sports Arena this morning (20 June), and it will run until 26 June. Matches will be played daily at 7.00am and 2.00pm, and admission is free for spectators.
Action from last year’s tournament |
The opening day of the tournament featured the first matches of the qualifiers for primary schools - Tran Dai Nghia v Huynh Ngoc Hue (Group A), Nguyen Van Troi v Hoa Tien 1 (Group A), Tran Cao Van v Ngo Si Lien (Group B), and Mai Dang Chon v Hoang Van Thu (Group B).
During this year’s tournament, the participating teams will compete in a round-robin format in the qualifying rounds, which makes the games more exciting.
Since it was first held in 2012, the tournament has become a popular event for primary and junior high school pupils from across the city.
Between 2012 and 2015, the event’s organisers, the DA NANG Newspaper, covered all the costs of organising the event, plus the prizes for the winning teams. However, over the past 2 years, the municipal departments of Education and Training and Culture and Sports, along with the local Youth Union, have become actively involved in supporting the Newspaper in organising the event. This has helped to increase the professionalism of the tournament, and to significantly enhance the quality of physical education at local schools.
