The event is being jointly organised by the Department of Culture and Sports, the Department of Education and Training, the municipal Youth Union, the Da Nang Radio and Television Station, the Trade Union, and the DA NANG, Police and Viet Nam Sports newspapers.

The race is a meaningful event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (27 July) and the 56th anniversary of the national day for AO victims (10 August).  Also, it aims to appeal for more donations from generous donors to help AO victims across the city.

The race is expected to attract around 220 domestic and foreign cyclists.  The contestants will compete in 40km-individual and 30km-group categories in 2 age groups - 18-44 and the over 40s.

The race circuit will be from the East Sea Park along Vo Nguyen Giap and Hoang Sa streets, and then returning to the start point.

The race will officially begin with a 50m-wheelchair race entitled ‘Overcoming by Themselves’ for 10 local AO-affected children.

Over 200 million VND from the organisers will be on offer as total prize money to 10 outstanding cyclists and 3 teams.

Mr Pham Van Tam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Asanzo Company, said that his company will present gifts to 5 Vietnamese heroic mothers and 5 AO victims during the opening ceremony.

Also at the press conference, Da Nang Association of Agent Orange (AO) Victims Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hien appealed for domestic and foreign donors to raise funds to help over 5,000 AO victims nationwide, including around 150 children who are living at the city’s Support Centres for AO Victims and Disadvantaged Children.
