Following the APEC Year 2017 theme of ‘Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future’, the event aims to connect the cultures of APEC member economies through the showcasing of their outstanding movies, thus helping to building an Asia-Pacific community of peace, stability, dynamic development and prosperity.
It is hoped to raise the role of the APEC forum and Viet Nam’s position amongst member economies.
As many as 11 films from 11 APEC member economies have been selected to be screened during the week, including 2 documentaries.
The opening of the week at the Le Do Cinema in Da Nang on 12 October will be marked with the screening of Vietnamese film ‘My nhan’ (The Beautiful Woman) by Director Dinh Thai Thuy.
The movie sketches a portrait of Nguyen Phuc Tan, the fourth ruler of the Nguyen Lords, who is viewed as a good lord and a military talent. He helped expand Viet Nam’s territory further to the south.
The real drama of the movie, however, isn’t his military triumphs and general wisdom. It lies in his relationship with a beautiful concubine whom he loves but his courtier’s disdain. And finally, he has to choose between his love for a woman and his interests.
