First photo contest on elderly people runs until 31 Oct
The Health Ministry and General Office for Population and Family Planning have launched an online photo competition on the role of senior citizens to mark the International Day for Old Persons (October 1) and the Action Month for the Vietnamese Elderly.

The contest is set to run from 2 to 31 October, and its prize winners will be announced and presented with awards between 5 and 10 November.
All Vietnamese nationals and foreigners living in Viet Nam are eligible to send their entries to the email address nguoicaotuoi2017@cpcs.vn.
Each person can submit a maximum of 3 entries, with each entry not exceeding 7 photos.
Submitted photos need to have titles and captions having a total of less than 200 words in Vietnamese. Their contents are recommended to focus on promoting the role of the elderly and communal assistance towards the senior citizens.

Viet Nam has about 10.1 million senior citizens, accounting for some 11% of the country's total population. The figure is likely to rise to 19 million people and 17% by 2030, and 28 million people and 25% in 2050.
