City to host 2019 Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship
Da Nang has been chosen as the host city for the 2019 Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship, Mr Trinh Bang, Director of Sunrise Events Viet Nam said.

Over the last 4 years, the quality of triathlon practice and competition has been significantly enhanced.
In particular, the 2018 VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam triathlon attracted a total of over 1,600 athletes from 56 countries and territories worldwide. Especially, Vietnamese participants were about 640, and 20 of whom came from Da Nang.
At this year’s event, achievements gained by domestic athletes have been remarkably improved. Most notably, Cao Ngoc Ha was the most outstanding amongst the Vietnamese contestants as he finished the triathlon in a time of 4 hours 45 mins and 7 secs, following closely Asia’s leading athletes. Meanwhile, Vo Quoc Tuan from Da Nang ranked 4th amongst Vietnamese participants.
Ironman Asia Pacific CEO Geoff Meyer remarked that VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam triathlon is one of the best competitions in the Asia-Pacific region over recent years.
Mr Bang affirmed that the organisers would make greater efforts to ensure the success of the international-scale sporting event in the year ahead.
The 2019 Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship will feature a prize fund of 75,000 USD, and offer 50 slots for the most outstanding contestants from the triathlon to compete in the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.
Thanks to larger scale and higher prize money, next year’s Asia Pacific championship is expected to attract a record number of athletes ever of 3,000.
