They have undergone many difficulties to gain remarkable achievements over the past years. Many challenges facing them at the first Da Nang International Fireworks Competion (DIFC) in 2008 included a shortage of preparation time and lack of experience in organising an international event, as well as the out-of-date pyrotechnic technology used by the home team Da Nang-Viet Nam. However, the home team did their utmost to thrill the audience with their impressive performance.

Following the success of DIFC 2008, the city’s authorities set the target of developing a professional fireworks team. Especially, since DIFC was upgraded into DIFF in 2017, the host team have exerted every efforts to be on par with their international rivals.

Initially, the 7 team members, who were all officers and men from the city’s Military Headquarters, were sent to Malaysia to learn about pyro-musical performances.

It took only 12 days for the team members to learn about FireOne, which is the world's most advanced digital fireworks firing and choreography system. They had encountered some difficulties, including the language barrier and the short-term training course.

Thanks to their high level of motivation and great efforts, the Vietnamese contestants acquired a grasp of the latest technology.

Over the past decade, despite the team having frequent contact with large amounts of flammable substances and explosives, there have not been any incidents during their fireworks performances. This has been attributed to their passion for researching into pyrotechnics, and their meticulous nature.

Major Huynh Ngoc Chinh, the team leader, said his 12-member team has now enriched its experience in creating a harmony between enchanting support music, impressive lighting effects, and sparkling colours in a bid to produce spectacular fireworks displays.

The Vietnamese ‘warriors’ have competed with foreign rivals who possess dozens of years of experience in pyrotechnics at many international-level fireworks competitions worldwide.

Through these interesting yet challenging events, the hosts’ performance skills have enhance considerably.

The hosts took ‘The Bridge of Love’ as the theme of their performance on 30 April at this year’s event.
A total of 4,000 fireworks tubes, in all different shapes, colours and sizes, were used for the hosts’ performances.

Through the use of the latest fireworks effects, the meticulously-prepared performance by the Vietnamese contestants featured different stages, conveying a meaningful message about the sentimental attachment to the homeland, romantic love affairs, and affection for international friends worldwide.

To fully express this meaningful theme, the hosts explored their own creativity in using impressive lighting effects, colourful fireworks, and accompanying melodious gentle Vietnamese and modern international music in a bid to produce the most impressive fireworks show imaginable to the audience.

Through their performances at DIFF over the 10-year-long journey, the Vietnamese contestants have written fascinating stories about the beauty of land, people and culture of Da Nang.

Despite the challenges and difficulties facing them, all of the Vietnamese competitors are always very proud of painting intriguing ‘fire flowers’ in the city sky which have stirred up deep feelings inside the spectators.
