The event was jointly organised by the Da Nang Liaison Committee for Commandos, the Hai Chau District People’s Committee (PC) of Da Nang, and the Dien Ban District PC of Quang Nam Province.

Covering an area of 72m2, the 2.9m-high stele is paved with red granite tiles, with vertical black bars on both sides.

The stele’s front side features the national coat of arms of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and it is carved with the words ‘Memorial Stele of Da Nang Fallen Commandos during the Anti-US Resistance War”. Meanwhile, its back side features the emblem of the Da Nang Commandos, and a motto ‘Keep the Oath of Death’.

The stele has been built at a cost of around 200 million VND which came from the Hai Chau Disstrict PC budget, and donations from local individuals and organisations.

The construction of the stele aims to express the younger generations’ deep gratitude to the heroic commandos who had laid down their lives for the protection of the nation. In addition, it helps to educate young people about patriotism and the national tradition of ‘when drinking water, remember its source’, as well as inspire them to study harder to gain even more achievements, to make greater efforts for the nation’s progress.
