Since 2016, a street parade of live music and dancing has taken place along the section of Tran Hung Dao between the Rong (Dragon) Bridge and its intersection with Trieu Viet Vuong in Da Nang’s Son Tra District.

Co-organised by the district People’s Committee and the municipal Cultural Centre, the event has involved around 170 dancers and musicians from such dance clubs as the May Xanh and Tien Sa, along with students from the Junior College of Culture and Arts.

At 8.00pm on the last Saturday of each month, the street artistes, in eye-catching costumes, parade along the street. Many different genres of music are covered, including valse, Latin pasodoble, tango, cha-cha and disco.

The quiet section on the eastern bank of the Han River turns vibrant and becomes a party of sound, colours and charming dances as high-power sound systems are placed in fixed positions along the section, along with such light systems as headlights and revolving lights are installed here.

Mrs Nguyen Thi Bich Dung from Vung Tau City said that her family had the opportunity to participate in the street parade when they visited Da Nang in late April. They were thrilled with eventful dances and street artistes’ eye-catching clothes.

She also highlighted significance of the night-time entertainment activity in attracting more visitors to the city.

The Deputy Director of the local Cultural Centre, Mr Cao Tuan Ngoc, noted that unlike previous years, this year’s event creates an inviting space for locals and visitors. Interestingly, street artistes will invite and encourage visitors to dance with them.

Most notably, the event has particular themes every month. In particular, the event had ‘Fragrance and Colours of Spring’ as its theme in February. Numerous songs about the beauty of natural landscapes and love of couples were played.

In April, street performers and visitors together shared their joys in the country's Reunification Day (30 April) with famous songs namely ‘Dat Nuoc Tron Niem Vui’ (The Country with Full Joy), ‘Chieu Da Nang’ (Da Nang in the Afternoon), ‘Buc Hoa Dong Que’ (A Painting of Countryside), and ‘Da Nang Toi Yeu’ (Da Nang - My Beloved City).

To celebrate the 128th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh, the event in May featured a flashmob performance in addition to dances and parade.

Mrs Vo Thi Phuong, Head of the district’s Culture and Information Office, said that every month amateur artistes across the district are encouraged to practise in preparation for the event. Also, heed has been paid to maintaining traffic safety and the security.

Mrs Phuong also underlined the importance of the street musical event in bringing a fun, interesting and great cultural activity to locals and visitors, as well as advertising traditional Vietnamese culture to international friends.
