About 300 articles, documents, photos on Hoang Sa Archipelago on display

An exhibition, featuring a total of about 300 articles, documents, and photos about the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago, is running until 21 September at the Hoang Sa Exhibition House located at the corner of Hoang Sa and Phan Ba Phien streets in Son Tra District’s Man Thai Ward, Da Nang.

Entrance is free for locals and visitors.

In detail, on display at the ongoing 10-day exhibition are 136 articles which have been selected from a valuable collection of articles about ancient maps and historical documents, entitled ‘Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly) belong to Viet Nam’, published between 1979 and 2011.

The 1,000- page, 60cm x 40cm collection book was owned by a married couple, who are the natives of the former Quang Nam –Da Nang Province, and now live in Ho Chi Minh City.

There are also 38 articles on China’s illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou 981 oil rig in Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in 2014.

The exhibition also shows off 110 articles by reporters from the DA NANG Newspaper, the Cong An (Police) Newspaper, and the city-based representative offices of such nationally-renowned press agencies as Nhan Dan, Thanh Nien, Tuoi Tre, and Sai Gon Giai Phong.

In addition, 12 photos taken by journalists depicting their working trips to the national waters are also on display at the event.

The press collection book is of great historical value and is one of the most valuable documents proving Viet Nam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes. Of note, the book showcases evidences relating to Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the 2 archipelagos, mentioned in a notice issued by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1933.

Addressing the exhibition, Chairman of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands District People’s Committee Vo Ngoc Dong emphasised the great significance of the exhibition in bringing the general public a deeper insight into the process in which Viet Nam has established and exercised its sovereignty over the 2 archipelagos in a peaceful and continuous manner, and in line with international laws.

Alongside, through such a meaningful exhibition, guidelines and policies of the Party and the State regarding the protection in Viet Nam’s sovereignty over its sea and islands are also introduced to the pubic.

The display of a large number of the articles at the event also demonstrates a high appreciation for reporters’ active engagement in the country’s unceasing righteous struggle for its sovereignty over its sea and islands, through their high-quality works on the ideological front.

Last, but not least, the opening of the exhibition is a good way to encourage the public, especially young generations, to uphold the spirit of patriotism, and raise their sense of responsibility in firmly safeguarding the national sovereignty over its sea and islands in the coming time.
