Murals liven up city's street
In response to the ‘Building Environmentally-Friendly Wards’ programme, the Youth Union organisation of Da Nang’s Cam Le District has developed an idea of creating beautiful murals on the walls of houses along Nguyen Phong Sac Street in the district’s Khue Trung Ward.

Ms Nguyen Thi Vinh, Secretary of the district’s Youth Union organisation, said Nguyen Phong Sac is considered as one of major streets in the locality with many families living and doing their businesses. However, there are many old and downgraded fences along the street, which has adversely affected the aesthetics of the local urban landscape.
Therefore, her organisation has encouraged its members and local young people to clean the street and beautify it with murals.
Since mid-2018, members from the district’s Youth Union organisation have joined forces with students from the city’s University of Architecture to turn the moss-covered walls of houses on Nguyen Phong Sac Street into beautiful murals. The murals are in 3.5m height and 170m length in total.
The murals depict the beauty of the nature with giant forests, oceans and animals, and funny cartoon characters.
The project costs a total of nearly 85 million VND which has been raised from local Youth Union members and businesses in the locality. Notably, the cost of the embellishment of pavements was funded by the district budget.
After nearly one month of implementing, murals give Nguyen Phong Sac Street new face, make it more beautiful, and create a new inviting venue for locals and visitors to take selfies.
Mrs Le Mai, a longtime resident on the street, said the new murals along Nguyen Phong Sac Street help to liven up this street, and build a cultural and civilised urban lifestyle amongst local citizens, as well as raise public awareness about environmental protection.
