22nd DA NANG Newspaper Road Races conclude

The 22nd DA NANG Newspaper Road Races took place at the city’s Tien Son Sport Arena on Saturday morning.

The event was held in recognition of the 74th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam People's Army (22 December), and the 29th anniversary of People’s National Defence Day (22 December). Also, the competition was in active response of the national ‘Whole People Taking Part in Physical Exercise Following the Great Example of Uncle Ho’ campaign, and the ongoing ‘5 No’s’ and ‘City of 4 Safe Programmes’ campaigns.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony, on behalf of the competition’s organisers, DA NANG Newspaper Editor-in-chief Truong Cong Dinh, sincerely thanked the city leaders for their great care for the newspaper’s annual races.

He also highlighted the significance of the event in promoting the development of high-achievement sports in Da Nang, as well as inspiring people from all walks of life, civil servants, pupils and students, military officers and men across the city to participate in physical training movements. He added it provided an excellent opportunity to train talented runners for the city.

The newspaper’s leader also took the opportunity to thank the event’s sponsors for their active support. They were the Vinamilk Company, the city’s branches of MBBank and Agribank, the city-based 29 March Textiles and Garments Company, and the Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper Printing House.

This year’s event attracted a total of nearly 1,000 amateur and professional runners from local relevant departments, agencies, and military and police forces, local junior and senior high schools, vocational schools, colleges and universities, and professional runners from such other localities.  Included were Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, and Quang Ngai.

In the end, most notably, for the 12th consecutive year, Thanh Khe District won the first prize in the team category for the city’s districts.

Also, the winners in the team categories of junior and senior high schools, militia, self-defence, military and regular army forces were from the Hoa Vang District Office of Education and Training, the Pham Phu Thu Senior High School, Hoa Cuong Nam Ward, the Da Nang Power Company, Da Nang Police Department, and the Special Police Battalion No 3 respectively.
