Present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, municipal People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, and municipal People’s Council Chairman Nguyen Nho Trung.

The handover of the certificate came after the Prime Minister approved the recognition last month.

Addressing the event, Chairman Tho pledged that the government and people of Da Nang would do their utmost to preserve and promote the special historical and cultural values of the site in a professional and systematic manner in the coming time.

The city’s Department of Culture and Sports will be responsible for making suggestions to the municipal government about developing a master plan on preserving and promoting sustainable values of the relic site in tandem with the local socio-economic progress.

In addition, a regulation will be created on managing and protecting the tangible and intangible cultural heritages which have close connection with the Marble Mountains site.

Meanwhile, the municipal Department of Tourism will be in charge of developing a plan for promoting tourism-cultural development activities in combination with connecting the relic site with other scenic spots in the city and its neighbouring localities, hereby making this site more inviting to domestic and foreign visitors.

Deputy Minister Thuy asked the city authortiies to arrange areas for exhibiting highly impressive sculptures made by artisans of the time-honoured Non Nuoc stone carving village.

Mrs Thuy also highlighted the significance of the city's joining forces with its neighbouring localities to create increasing added value of their local tourism sector.

The Marble Mountains site was officially recognised as a national-level relic site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1980.

This beautiful site in fact is a cluster of 6 limestone mounts, namely Kim Son, Moc Son, Thuy Son, Am Hoa Son, Duong Hoa Son, and Tho Son.

As a precious gift of nature endowed to the city, the Marble Mountains site is one of the most beautiful places in the central region, and truly a place not to be missed while you are in Da Nang.

Last year, this inviting site welcomed about 1.9 million visitors, about 1.27 million of whom were foreigners, hereby contributing 81 billion VND to the State budget.
