As announced by the tourney’s organiser on 26 January, in a four-day poll, Phuong’s goal received 217,698 votes or 74% of the total votes, a landslide win compared to five other candidates.

Phuong’s goal, which he scored off his teammate Nguyen Trong Hoang’s splendid cross from the right wing, helped Viet Nam equalised with Jordan in the game, and later emerged “victorious” from a penalty shoot-out, thus becoming the first team to reach the tourney’s quarter-finals.

The goal by Mirlan Murzaev (Kyrgyzstan) into the host UAE’s net, came second in the survey with 59,519 votes or 20% of the total.
