The title ‘National Capital of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)’s One Planet City Challenge 2018 (OPCC) programme was viewed as the hallmark of its urban development in 2018, making it the only city in Viet Nam to join a list of 21 cities worldwide for the title of the global winner of the OPCC 2018.

This notable title demonstrates tremendous efforts made by the city in developing policies and initiatives for making it become the leading green city with sustainable development in Viet Nam.

The focus was on developing practical plans on the reduction of Green House Gas (GHG) and carbon emissions, promoting the utility of renewable energy sources through developing solar power systems, increasing the public consumption of bio-fuel, initiating the construction of an urban waste-to-energy plant, enhancing the green transport development, especially with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes, and establishing wastewater treatment systems throughout the city.

Da Nang really impressed the international jury board with its ambitious and innovative climate actions in an active response to the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. Accordingly, the city submitted a target of decreasing carbon emissions by 25% from 2016 emission levels by 2030.

Country Director of WWF-Viet Nam Van Ngoc Thinh remarked that if Da Nang makes greater efforts in boosting urban development in the right direction and developing itself into an environmentally-friendly city, its dream of becoming “The International Green City” will come true in the near future.

In 2013, Da Nang was both presented with an Asian Townscape Award (ATA) launched by UN-Habitat Regional Office in Asia. The criteria for the award are a harmonious co-existence with the regional environment; safety, convenience and sustainability; respect for regional culture and history; high artistic quality; contributions to local development; and the capability to become a model for other cities.

Noticeably, the spectacular Cau Vang (Golden Bridge) at Da Nang-based Sun World Ba Na Hills Resort has been named the most favourite check-in destination in Viet Nam in 2018 at WeChoice Awards.

Also, the picture of the ‘Giant Hand Structure on the Golden Bridge’ topped a list of 60 pictures chosen by Reuters in August 2018.

The bridge was also included on a list of the top 100 World’s Greatest Places for 2018 by the US magazine Time.

Many international and domestic film crews have chosen Da Nang as an ideal location to shoot their movies.

Some parts of a Vietnamese TV serial entitled ‘Zippo, Mustard and You’, which is aired on the VTV3 channel in 2016, feature fascinating images of the Ba Na Hills Resort, the Hai Van Pass, the Son Tra Mountains and the bridges across the Han River.

Likewise, some scenes in such famous Vietnamese films as ‘Trai Tim Co Nang’ (Sunlight in the Heart) and ‘Tuoi Thanh Xuan’ (Forever Young) were shot at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, My Khe Beach, and other local tourist attractions.

Opened in 2016, inspired by Europe farms, Thuan Phuoc Field on Le Van Duyet Street has emerged as an inviting place for locals and visitors.

Covering an area of 3,000m2, this amazing place was designed as a very romantic and beautiful studio where you can take beautiful and poetic pictures.
