Da Nang Traditional Badminton Tournament 2019 opens until 14 April

The 2019 Da Nang Traditional Badminton Tournament for VN Da Thanh Group Cup is taking place at the Tien Son Sports Arena until 14 April.

Jointly organised by the Da Nang Badminton Federation (DBF), the DA NANG Newspaper, the Da Nang Radio and Television, and the VN Da Thanh Group, the event aims to respond to the ‘All People Do Physical Exercise Following of Uncle Ho’ Example’ campaign.

This year’s tournament is attracting nearly 330 players from badminton clubs in Da Nang, and the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Thua Thien Hue, and Binh Dinh. 

The participants have been divided into 9 different age groups, and they compete in the categories of men's and women's singles and doubles, and mixed doubles.

The VN Da Thanh Group is the main sponsor for this tournament with total money of 560 million VND. Other sponsors are the Bac Giang New Star Badminton Company, the Hoa Tho and 29 March textiles and garments companies, the municipal Power Company, and the Da Nang Electronic and Informatics JSC.

In addition to sponsoring for this year’s tournament, the VN Da Thanh Group signed a sponsorship agreement for DBF over the 2019-2023 period on Wednesday morning.

Under the agreement, the group will donate DBF between 1 and 2 billion VND each year during that period in order to promote the development of the city’s tournaments, and of the local sports sector as a whole.

Mr Tran Quoc Bao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the VN Da Thanh Group, said a fund would be established to train promising badminton players in order to facilitate them to compete in badminton tournaments at national and international levels.

He also hoped that an international badminton tournament would be organised in the city soon to facilitate local badminton players to compete with their strong rivals in a bid to improve their professional skills, as well as to advertise the city’s images to international friends.

In his remarks at the signing ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee cum Honorary Chairman of DBF Dang Viet Dung spoke highly of many remarkable achievements the city’s sports sector have gained over the past years.

He also underscored the need for relevant local agencies to train young players and facilitate them to compete in national and international sports events.
