Over 200 people compete in Barefoot Green Run 2019

On Saturday morning, more than 200 runners in total, including disabled people,  participated in the Barefoot Green Run 2019 on Da Nang’s My Khe Beach.

This year’s event were co-organised by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches, and the city- based Green Eco Adventures LTD Company.

This is the first time that such environmentally-friendly running competition has been held in the seaside city.

The event aimed to convey the inspirational message ‘Be a Green Runner’ in a great effort in order to raise public awareness of environmental protection, and saying ‘no’ to the utility of single-use water bottles and printed publications.

This  event featured 3 separate races, namely 2km Easy/ Family Run, 3km Fun Run and 7km Heat Challenge.

Easy/ Family Run was an easy task for beginners, and it was very suitable for families, especially children, whilst Fun Run offered the opportunity to white-collar workers to challenge themselves.

Heat Challenge, the most challenging race at the event, was be very inviting to those who were interested in personal fitness and secured their physical strength.

During the race, the participants were required to run without footwear, bring one empty biodegradable cup of water with them, and only receive water at the points of 1.75km and 6km along their running way.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony of the competition, Mr Dinh Quang Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, noted the purpose of the competition was to raise public awareness about building a green environment and environmentally-friendly city.

He took the opportunity to ask local residents to join forces with the city’s leaders to change their habits in using plastic bottles and disposable plastic products.

“In the coming time, the city will promote the garbage classification at the source, and the recycling of solid waste”, he noted.
