On Thursday afternoon, SHB DN defeated Ho Chi Minh City 2-0 in the 12th round of the league at the Hoa Xuan Stadium. The point helps them climb to 3rd place in the V-league.

Taking the advantage of playing at home, SHB DN took control of the game from the beginning, but Do Merlo missed a scoring chance in the first half.

SHB's coach Le Huynh Duc once again changed his team's counter-attacking formation as he arranged strikers Ha Duc Chinh and Phan Van Long to substitute for Bonificio and Schmitt Dominik in the start of the second half. Since then, the home team pushed on seeking goals.

In the 56th minute, Do Merlo opened the scoring for the hosts with a powerful header.

With their opening goal, SHB players could relieve the heavy psychological pressure from their coach Duc, playing actively and making continuous and varied attacks to put pressure on their rivals.

With a hope of levelling the score, HCMC’s coach Chung Hae Soung fielded key stars namely Pham Van Thanh, Tran Thanh Binh and Huynh Kesley Alves.

However, the visitors could not put much pressure on SHB’s goalkeeper Thanh Binh thanks to impressive performances by the home team’s defenders.

In the last minutes of the second half, striker Ha Duc Chinh's direct shot at goal increased the score to 2-0 for the home team.

In the other matches, Thanh Hoa defeated Nam Dinh 3-2 at home, whilst Viettel played out a 3-3 home draw against Quang Ninh.

This late afternoon, there will be matches between Becamex Binh Duong v Sanna Khanh Hoa, Hai Phong v Quang Nam, Hoang Anh Gia Lai v Ha Noi, and Sai Gon v Song Lam Nghe An.
