In 2002, boxing was allowed to resume in Da Nang after an eight-year ban issued by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training as a result of fierce fights between boxers at the National Boxing Championship 1994.

One year later, Da Nang’s former boxer Huynh Van Tuan got approval from leaders of the city’s sports sector to establish a boxing team and revive this kind of sports.

Great efforts made by boxing coach Tuan and his trainees have been paid off as the city’s boxing team finished 3rd place in the National Cup for Boxing Clubs in 2006.

Especially, coach Tuan has succeeded in training qualified athletes who have gained outstanding achievements in national boxing events.

In particular, boxer Bui Cong Danh Loi claimed the bronze medal in the men’s 49kg event at the National Sports Festival 2018. He also won gold medals at the National Cup for Boxing Clubs in 2014, 2016 and 2019, and at the National Boxing Championship 2019.

Boxer Nguyen Van Gioi who competes in the men’s 56kg event grabbed gold medals at the National Sports Festival 2018, and the National Boxing Championships in 2017 and 2019. He was crowned champions at the Let's Viet competitions in 2015 and 2016.

Meanwhile, Tran Quang Nhan took the bronze medal at the National Sports Festival 2018 in the men's 60kg event.

Most recently, a kickboxing team has been established in the city under the coaching of Tuan, and the team members have brought home some medals at the National Cup for KickBoxing Clubs 2020.

Specifically, kickboxer Vo Thi Trinh won gold medal in the women’s 46kg event, and Duong Thanh Tung silver medal in the men’s 60kg event. Meanwhile, Dinh No Na and Ngo Hong Giang took bronze medals in the men’s 67kg and 91kg events respectively.
