All athletes are attending training courses inside the centre, and they are not allowed to go out of their dedicated training areas.

All of the centre’s staff, coaches and athletes are required to seriously practice the city's social distancing rules, including wearing face coverings, washing their hands regularly with soap and water, and avoiding gatherings and crowded places.

In addition, medical workers are available at the centre around the clock in order to monitor health of coaches and athletes.

Director of the Centre Le Hong Son said all athletes here are busy in preparing for the forthcoming national and international sports events, including the qualifying rounds of the Olympic Tokyo 2020 and the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2021.

Viet Nam's National Sports and Physical Training Centre in Da Nang has quickly put in place drastic measures to ensure the safety of athletes amid growing concerns about a second wave across Da Nang, Mr Son remarked.

In particular, athletes have their body temperature taken thrice daily, and they are asked to stay at least 2m away from others during training progress. Besides, the training areas inside the centre are disinfected and sterilised regularly.

Last, but not least, the focus has been on ensuring good nutrition for athletes to help them increase resistance against infection.

Currently, the centre's athletes are using Zoom to join online classes delivered by foreign coaches, who are unable to enter Viet Nam due to travel restrictions issued by the Vietnamese government in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.
