The second wave of Covid-19 has impacted different industries in Da Nang. In particular, the sports industry has been directly impacted by the pandemic, in part as a result of closures and event cancellations. The pandemic have had major implications for athletes and players, with restrictions of access to training venues as part of Da Nang’s strict lockdown measures to tackle Covid-19.

As a result, Da Nang athletes found it very difficult to well prepare for their upcoming national and international sports events.

However, Da Nang’s swimmers have gained certain success in their recent sports events although the coronavirus experience presented a highly challenging period for them.

The Da Nang team finished in the 3rd place in the 2020 National Swimming and Diving Championship which took place at the Phu Tho Diving-Swimming Club in Ho Chi Minh City from 16-21 October. They brought home five golds, two silvers and six bronzes from this national-level sport event.

Da Nang’s top swimmers Hoang Quy Phuoc and Nguyen Huu Kim Son maintained a good level of their performances during the sports event. Meanwhile, promising talented swimmers Nguyen Quoc Khai Hoan, Ngo Van Phap and Nguyen Viet Tuong produced excellent performances.

Great efforts of  Da Nang swimmers finally paid dividends as the city’s male relay team successfully defended their title in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay race for 11 consecutive years, and in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay race for 3 consecutive years, at the national-level sports event.

The ladies’ relay team, consisting of My Ngoc, Nhu Quynh, Nguyen Thi Huong Giang and Le Thi Thuy Trang, claimed the bronze in the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relay races.

Mr Phan Thanh Toai, the Head of the municipal Diving and Swimming Club, remarked Da Nang boasted many promising young swimmers such as Nhu Quynh and Nguyen Viet Tuong who are able to win individual medals. He, however, underlined a must-do for leaders of the city’s sports industry to send talented swimmers to foreign countries for both short-term and long-term training courses in a bid to enhance their professional skills.
