Organised by the Consulate General of South Korea in Da Nang, the contest themed ‘Creative Kimchi Recipes’ aimed to introduce South Korean food to Da Nang people and tourists, and increase mutual cultural exchanges between Viet Nam and South Korea.

Launched on16 November, the contest attracted 37 teams from Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Thua Thien Hue.

Five finalists have been chosen by the judges during one month of qualifying rounds.

Under the contest rule, the finalists prepared their dishes in one hour, and they then made their oral presentation to the contest's panel of judges consisting of South Korean and Vietnamese chefs.

As a result, Nguyen Thi Thuy Van from Quang Ngai Province took the top prize with the ‘sticky rice rolls stuffed kimchi’ and ‘Kimchi fried noodles’ dishes.

The second prize went to Ton Thi Thao from Da Nang for her ‘kimchi tofu summer rolls’ dish. Meanwhile, two other teams from Da Nang, and one from Thua Thien Hue Province, shared third place.

In his speech at the awards ceremony for the contest, Korean Consulate General in Da Nang Ahn Min Sik expressed his happiness at Vietnamese young people’s special love for kimchi, as well as at the enthusiastic participation from contestants.

He affirmed the Consulate General of South Korea in Da Nang will organise more interesting events in the coming time, in a bid to promote South Korean culture in Da Nang, and Viet Nam at large.
