Positive results from Da Nang's high-performance sports

During the 2011 - 2020 period, the sports sector paid special attention to selecting talents for the city's high-performance sports teams from mass sports movements citywide.
Additionally, sports infrastructure, including stadiums, sports halls, swimming pools, fitness facilities, and others, was continuously upgraded.
Of special note, coaches and athletes in Da Nang received monthly allowances and cash rewards for their outstanding achievements at national and international sports events. Besides, they were facilitated to participate in vocational training courses or seek suitable jobs after ending their elite sports career.
In 2011, the city had only 29 high-achievement sports, and these figures increased to 36 last year.
Since 2016, Da Nang's sports sector has played a vital role in training and providing 60 outstanding athletes for Viet Nam's national sports teams.
During the 10-year period, Da Nang athletes contributed 14 gold medals, 15 silver and 24 bronze to the Vietnamese team at the SEA Games in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. Besides, they took 3 gold medals, 3 silver and one bronze at the Asian Games (ASIAD) and world championships.
Most notably, weightlifter Tran Le Quoc Toan from Da Nang claimed a bronze in the men’s 56kg category at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Thanks to the aforementioned much-hailed results, Da Nang’s high-performance sports team was ranked first in Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands, and they were named among top 7 high-performance sports teams in Viet Nam.
In the next decade, Da Nang's sports sector will prioritise developing between 39 and 45 high-performance sports with up to 1,415 athletes in total, with a focus on beach sports, and common sports in SEA Games.
Heed will be paid to building new training facilities for coaches and athletes at the Hoa Xuan Sports and Physical Training Complex, and attracting sports talents in both Da Nang and from other Vietnamese localities.
